Photoshop
In this tutorial we will learn to create a simple Gold Medal using Photoshop CS6. You can use any other version of Photoshop as well. You are encouraged to experiment and change the steps and values shown in this video as per your imagination.
Let's get started.
Step 1. Open Photoshop and click on File and then New. Or press Ctrl+N if you are using Windows.
Step 2. Now set the Name to “Gold Medal”. Set the dimension to 500x500 in pixels, i.e., width to 500 pixels and height to 500 pixels. Set the resolution to 72 Pixels/Inch, Color mode to “RGB color”, “8 bit”. And finally set the background contents to “White”.
Step 3. Select the Ellipse Tool (U)
Step 4. Draw a circle of width 400 and height 400 by pressing the Shift key while drawing. Set Stroke to Black and set Stroke width to 3 pt.
Step 5. Right click on Ellipse 1 and select Blending Options…
Step 6. Tick Bevel and Emboss and Gradient Overlay.
Step 7. In Bevel and Emboss under Structure set
Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Smooth
Depth: 400 %
Direction: Up
Size: 20px
Soften: 0px
Step 8. In Bevel and Emboss under Shading set
Angle: 120 degree
Tick Use Global Light
Altitude: 30 degree
Highlight Mode: Color Dodge
Opacity: 75%
Shadow Mode: Multiply
Opacity: 0%
Step 9. In Gradient Overlay set
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Gradient: #ffd700 to #ffd800
Angle: -90 degree
Scale: 100%
Then click OK
Step 10. Now we have our Gold Medal base ready so we can set the Stroke to Solid Color from Black.
Step 11. Create a new layer and draw a circle of width 350 pixels and height 350 pixels.
Step 12. Right click on Ellipse 2 and select Blending Options…
Step 13. Tick Bevel and Emboss, Inner Glow, Satin, Gradient Overlay and Outer Glow.
Step 14. In Bevel and Emboss under Structure set
Style: Outer Bevel
Depth: 200%
Size: 10px
Soften: 0px
Step 15. In Bevel and Emboss under Shading set
Angle: 120 degree
Tick Use Global Light
Altitude: 30 degree
Highlight Mode: Color Dodge
Opacity: 0%
Shadow Mode: Color Dodge
Opacity: 30%
Step 16. In Inner Glow under Structure set
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 25%
Noise: 0%
Color: Black #000000
Step 17. In Inner Glow under Elements set Size: 20px
Step 18. In Satin under Structure set
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 20%
Angle: 45 degree
Distance: 100px
Size: 150px
Step 19. In Gradient Overlay set
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 70%
Gradient: #ffd700 to #ffd800
Angle: -90 degree
Scale: 100%
Step 20. In Outer Glow under Structure set
Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 70%
Noise: 0%
Color: Black
Step 21. In Outer Glow under Elements set Size: 20px. Then Click OK.
Step 22. Now Ellipse 2 is ready so set the Stroke to Solid Color from Black.
Step 23. Create a new layer and insert a logo at the center. For this tutorial I will be using my DY logo.
Step 24. Right click on the logo layer and select Blending Options…
Step 25. Tick Bevel and Emboss and Gradient Overlay.
Step 26. In Gradient Overlay change the color.
You will get the following output.
Feel free to change the steps and values shown in this tutorial as per your need and imagination. You can add stars and text if you want. The choice is yours.
